A report published in the medical journal The Lancet shows walking and cycling to reduce greenhouse gas emissions also has major health benefits, including reduced cardiovascular disease, depression and dementia. Looking ahead to 2030, scientists estimated the health effects of alternative urban transport strategies for London and the Indian city of Delhi. The authors, led by James Woodcock from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, wrote: "Policy makers should divert investment from roads for motorists towards provision of infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists”.
