Move Smart from the start
BAMBINI aims to make parents recognize the importance of an early travel socialisation. One innovative approach is to design creative and inspiring toys and books about sustainable transport modes for children aged 0 to 6.
Move smart from the start is the slogan of the European project BAMBINI and this perfectly expresses the objective of the project. Usually parents with small children prefer to use the car as their main mean of transport. Furthermore, when you look at children’s books or toys that deal with mobility, the themes are mostly related to some form of motorized traffic. Therefore, children become conditioned in favour of motorised vehicles from very early on.
The project BAMBINI aims to counteract this type of socialisation by using various innovative approaches. Creative and inspiring toys and books about sustainable transport modes for children aged 0 to 6 are designed and produced by the project partners. These toys and books are distributed to and tested within crèches, kindergartens and pre-schools in 11 different countries.
So far 3 out of a total of 6 BAMBINI toys are tested in the child care facilities. And in time for the Christmas season the BAMBINI partners even distributed a special book about a Christmas bike that was designed by children for children and is available for download on the project website in 11 European languages. But BAMBINI also aims to make parents recognize the importance of an early travel socialisation. This is done by organising BAMBINI workshops for staff of pre-birth classes, day care centres and kindergartens, to incite them to inform and stimulate parents to use sustainable transport modes more often. Professionals of day care centres and kindergartens are also called upon to develop and use more activities around sustainable mobility modes in their daily practice. For these activities the BAMBINI website also provides ample inspiration in the “Ideas Corner†on the website (www.mobile-bambini.eu). With the help of all those professionals and beautifully designed toys and books, more and more children will move smart from the start!
